is the Bible the Word of God? We have seen how recent scientific discoveries and observations shed a new light on the texts of the Bible, especially the Pentateuch. These accounts written about 3,500 years ago contain astounding statements, revealing scientific and medical insights not known to mankind until the last few centuries or even recent decades. The following exhibits to show that the Bible is the Word of God were presented:

1. The Genesis creation account is remarkably consistent with our current knowledge about the sequence of the development of life on earth and shows knowledge about natural science not known to mankind until recently.
2. Studies based on specific male and female DNA  show that the common male ancestor is much younger than the common ancestor for females. No scientific observation or theory can account for this well-observed phenomenon other than the Biblical flood.
3. DNA  in living cells can only be copied a limited time. This scientific observation is remarkably consistent with the 120 year maximum lifespan decreed by God in Genesis.
4. The dimension and specification of Noah’s Ark resemble those of a modern day container ship, displaying shipbuilding knowledge only recognized in the last century.
5. The instructed circumcision  of male babies on the eighth day coincides with the peaking of blood clotting proteins.
6. The explicit instructions in the Mosaic Law about hygiene and contagious diseases have been confirmed by medical science only in the last 150 years.
7. The dietary rules outlined in the Mosaic Law are confirmed by modern medical science as an excellent way to reduce risk of cancerous diseases, heart disease, and stroke.
8. Adam and Eve were instructed to multiply, but as they were the only people, their children would have to marry family members. During the time of Moses, God explicitly outlawed sexual relationships with family members. Through genetics we now understand the increased risks of birth defects through in-breeding as the number of small errors in human DNA  increases over generations.

Next, we have studied how the Scriptures contain hundreds of prophecies, foretelling events in secular history as well as the birth, life, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The prophecies were written centuries or even millennia before the predicted events took place. Selecting the most explicit prophecies, written well before their historical fulfillment, the following exhibits were presented:

9. Isaiah’s prophecy of the return of exiled Jews from Babylon to Jerusalem by decree of Cyrus, King of Persia (Isaiah 44:28-45:1).
10.  The multiple prophecies in the book of Daniel about the Babylonian, Medo-Persian, Geek and Roman empires (Daniel chapters 2, 7 and 8).
11.  Ezekiel’s detailed prophecy about the destruction of Tyre, ultimately fulfilled by Alexander the Great  (Ezekiel 26:3-14).
12. Jesus’ prophecy about the “not one stone left on another” destruction of Jerusalem  by the Romans in 70 AD (Mark 13:1-2).
13. The “Seventy Sevens” prophecy in Daniel that predicts almost 600 years in advance, the day of the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem  on Palm Sunday (Daniel 9:24-27).
14. The hundreds of prophecies from the Old Testament, written centuries BC about the Messiah, all fulfilled by Jesus through His birth, ministry, death and resurrection.

The Bible is not a single book, but a collection of 66 books written by 40 authors over a period of 1,500 years. Still it has one theme, one story: God’s plan of redemption for mankind:

15. From cover to cover the Bible outlines how, thanks to God’s love and mercy, our sins can be forgiven through the blood of the perfect lamb, Jesus Christ.

Two final exhibits were presented to complete the evidence for God’s inspiration of the Bible:

16. Believing and applying the teachings of the Bible has changed, and continues to change, lives of believers through history and all over the world.
17. Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God Himself, teaches that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. If what Jesus taught is true and He teaches that the Bible is inspired, it logically follows that it is true that the Bible is inspired.

So., is the Bible the Word of God? Over time, many have claimed discoveries of patterns in the texts of the Bible and/or symbolic prophecies, that prove God’s inspiration of the Scripture. In this book, these evidences from design (some call them “Bible codes ”) have – because of their controversial nature – not been considered “hard evidence.”  Hence they have not been presented as exhibits of evidence. However, these patterns and prophecies reveal intriguing and thought provoking observations and were shared simply as illustrations in the last chapter of this section.
