1880ies Comprehensive, Illustrated Family Bible

This is an illustrated and fully 'loaded' Antique Family Bible in a GOOD condition. This 1880ies (no explicit publishing date observed) Comprehensive Family Bible is hardbound in full leather, deep carvings in the leather and gold lettering on the spine as well as the front and rear covers. Besides a presentation of the Authorized (King James) Version , this Bible contains in additional sections:, like: the Apocrypha of the Old Testament, Psalms in Metre, Notes and Readings, Concordance, Pictorial Dictionary of the Bible, Christian Denominations of the World, Christ and His Kingdom in Shadows and many, many more study aids. The Bible is illustrated with "several hundred engravings, maps and plans, on wood and steel."

There are two large brass clips that hold the book closed. There is scuffing to the leather at the edges but overall the covers are very attractive, the binding is tight and the interior is very clean, only observed two ripped pages. The interior gutters have binding tape reinforcement. The Bible is still holding together but it getting more delicate. It might be wise to improve the binding if you plan to use it often. As always with these antique books: you need to handle them with extreme care!. There are several hundred engravings, maps and plans, on wood and steel, including some Gustave Doré illustrations. There is a section of the book for recording deaths, births and marriages and there is an entry for a marriage in Allegheny City (now Pittsburgh) in 1868 and deaths listed from 1831 and 1842, with obituaries laid into the book in the name of Smith. At the very rear of the book are pages for family photographs and there are ten cabinet photographs and two tin type photos, mostly of children.
