A small vintage leather bound
Dutch Bible, which was published in Amsterdam in 1834. This antique Dutch Bible and
Church Book - in VERY GOOD condition - contains the complete text of the New Testament ("Statenvertaling',
as well as a large collection of Psalms (with music, 336 pages), Hymns
('Gezangen', 335 pages)
and various Prayers ('Catechismus', 65 pages) to be used during the Sunday service.
As the title page reads: "Het Nieuwe Testament, Ofte Alle
Boecken des Nieuwen Verbonts Onses Heeren Jesu Christi, Door Last van
de hooch mog. heeren, Staten Generael Der Vereenigde Nederlanden; ende
volgens 't Besluyt van de Synode Nationael, Gehouden Tot Dordrecht, in
de jaren 1618 en 1619."
This Bible is bound closed by a leather strap. All
edges are in gilt. There is some wear to the leather binding. The
strap has the most wear (small tears and a crease). The front and back
hinges are cracked, but all pages of this bible are firmly attached to
the binding. The front end paper is torn out (seems like that that was
a blank page, the tile page is still present). The rest of the Bible
is present and in clean and attractive condition. There is very little
browning or foxing to the pages. Overall, this is a very clean and
attractive and special Dutch Bible.
