Rather unique double page full
color plates! From the title page: "The sweet story of Jesus,
the Life of Christ, by Frederic W. Farrar, D.D., F.R.S., Late fellow
of Trinity College; Arch-deacon and Canon of Westminster and Chaplain
to the Queen, 'Tell me the Story of Jesus' and other appropriate hymns
with music, illustrated with a large number of Magnificent Full-Page Engravings,
designed by Holman Hunt, Gustave Doré, Alexander Bida, Pronckhorst, and
other World-renowned Artists, also Reproductions of World-Famous
Paintings by Raphael, Rubens, west and other Master painters."
Huge 12 by 10 folio sized,
530 pages, 63 beautiful illustrations (many chromolithographs). A very
rare first American edition.
The frontispiece is a copy of the famous steel engraving "The Shadow of the Cross" by the celebrated artist Holman Hunt, whose fame is world wide. It represents Jesus at work in a carpenter shop. As He rises to stretch His tired form, it casts a shadow on the wall where tools are hung in the form of a cross; His shadow exactly fitting this cross, seems to forecast the
the manner of His death. Mary, His mother, seeing the shadow on the cross is filled with anguish and fear of future sorrow.

Included is the Hymn, "TELL ME THE STORY OF JESUS" and other appropriate Hymns with music. Published in 1890, this book is
a VERY GOOD CONDITION! for its age; especially to be 119 YEARS OLD! The flaws are reinforced hinges with bookbinding tape on both hinges. Three quarters of the book has neat, clean text and pages with no markings. The last 100 pages has a couple of pages, not every one, where pen underlining for one word or sentence have been highlighted. It is neatly done, however, a mild blemish that must be disclosed. Otherwise, the illustrations, text and overall appearance is very nice. Upon reading this book, you are left with an overwhelming feeling of heartfelt emotion, gratitude and knowledge. It is a most touching narrative of the life of the "Greatest Man Who Ever Lived."
