A
very rare find, a color illustrated (chromolithographs) very early
(pre-1870!) very large Antique
Family Bible
in a remarkable good condition. This leather bound Bible has 13 color
lithographs, 21 engravings and 6 color maps. Published by William
Collins in Glasgow/London. In
text extensive comments of Matthew Henry and Thomas Scott.
From
the title page: "The Practical and Devotional Family Bible,
the Holy Bible containing the Old and New Testaments, according to the
Authorized Version, with the marginal readings , and original and
selected parallel references, printed at length, and the commentaries
of Henry and Scott, condensed by the rev. John McFarlan, and a compact
Biblical Dictionary ... with a Scripture Atlas , and a series of illustrations
of the Lands of the Bible, engraved from photographs taken exclusively
for this work." The extensive commentary added to this Bible
covers about 1/3 to even a 1/2 of every page of the Scripture! The
pages have gilded edges. There is no writing on the pages of the
family history section.

This
Bible is in a overall VERY GOOD condition. There are NO ripped or missing
pages, just a slight occasional light stains/browning of the paper as
to be expected. The hinges are in a good condition and not split. There is
some wear to the edges of the covers and areas on the leather. A rare
and exceptional GEM!
