A
very early extensively illustrated Antique Family Bible published
before the civil war. Gold embossed leather covers and gold-gilt
pages. More than one-thousand engravings throughout the Bible. As per the title page:
"The Pictorial Bible being the Old and New testaments
according to the Authorized Version: illustrated with more than onethousand
engravings representing the historical events, after celebrated pictures;
the landscape scenes, from original drawings or from authentic
engraving; and the subjects of natural history, costume, and
antiquities, from the best sources." Also noticed a
large, detailed fold-out map (small tear) and a section for recording family events
(partly filled out for the Wakeman family)

This
Bible is in a overall VERY GOOD+ condition. It
can be used and opened easily and used as a daily reader as its bindings and the
spine/covers have been
professionally restored. Apart from the dedication on the first page
and the family record, there is NO writing on any of the
pages. There are NO ripped or missing pages. Some age spots on the
first pages, but very clean from there on. There is
some wear to the edges of the covers (esp. at the bottom corner of the
back cover) and areas on the leather. A well preserved antique
illustrated Bible!
