This beautiful - almost as NEW - Roman Catholic antique family Bible has an exquisite decorative cover which consists of thick leather covered boards embossed and with intricate artwork and a (gold gilt) cross surrounded by various gold-embossed decorations and two fully operational metal clasps, each in the shape of a cross The text of this Bible is the so called Douay-Rheims Bible (or Doway Rheims Bible or D-R Bible), "revised and corrected according to the Clementine edition of the Scriptures", which is an English translation from the Latin Vulgate with "annotations by the Rev. Dr. Challoner". The text covers the complete Old and New Testament as well as the books that are often referred to as the Apocrypha. To support the study of this Bible various notes and explanations are added to the text in chapter descriptions and footnotes and a very extensive History of the Holy Catholic Bible and Calmet's illustrated and explanatory Catholic Dictionary of the Bible. Numerous "elegant steel plates and other appropriate engravings" (including from the French artist Gustave Doré) and color maps. Contains Approbations of 51 American bishops and archbishops. At the middle of the Bible is a completely unmarked family section.

This Bible is in an overall EXCELLENT, almost "as-new" condition. The Bible's binding, spine and cover are in great shape. All pages are present, no writings, no tears, no foxing/coloring or any other kind of damages. The covers and spine shows some fairly minor age related scuffs and wear. An extraordinary preserved, "un-used" Bible!
