1880ies Unmarked Douay Rheims Catholic (Dore) Illustrated Bible with clasps

This beautiful - with unused family record pages - Roman Catholic antique family Bible has an exquisite decorative cover which consists of thick leather covered boards embossed and with intricate artwork and a (gold gilt) cross showing the XIV (14) stations of the crucifixion, surrounded by various gold-embossed decorations with scenes of the Bible and two fully operational metal clasps, each in the shape of a cross. Gold gilt pages. The text of this Bible is the so called Douay-Rheims Bible (or Doway Rheims Bible or D-R Bible) which was translated in English from the Latin Vulgate. The text covers the complete Old and New Testament as well as the books that are often referred to as the Apocrypha. To support the study of this Bible various additional sections are included, like an illustrated and comprehensive Bible Dictionary, History of the Books of the Bible, Life of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a full color illustrated section on the Stations of the Cross. "The whole Beautifully Illustrated with Numerous Steel Pales and Other Appropriate Engravings" (including from the French artist Gustave Doré) and color maps. At the middle of the Bible is a completely unmarked family page section and at the end of the Bible are pages for family pictures.

This Bible is in a VERY GOOD and VERY USABLE condition. The Bible's binding, spine and cover are in great shape (professionally restored and rebound, spine is replaced). All pages are present, no writings, no tears, very minor foxing/coloring. No other kind of damages. The covers show some fairly minor age related scuffs and wear (back cover has major wear). A well preserved, clean and "un-used" Roman Catholic antique family Bible ready to be used as a family treasure!
