1880ies Unmarked (Dore) Illustrated Potter's Catholic Douay Rheims Bible

A well preserved and professionally rebound beautifully (some Gustave Dore) illustrated Approved Roman Catholic antique family Bible published by John E. Potter and Company. The Bible has an exquisite decorative cover with intricate artwork and a (gold gilt) cross surrounded by various gold-embossed decorations. The text of this Bible is the Douay-Rheims Bible (or Doway Rheims Bible or D-R Bible), "containing the entire Canonical Scriptures, according to the Decree of the Council of Trent; translated from the Latin Vulgate", with "annotations by the Rev. Dr. Challoner". With various approbations of American (arch)bishops. The text covers the complete Old and New Testament as well as the books that are often referred to as the Apocrypha. To support the study of this Bible there are a number of additional sections, like 'the History of the Holy Catholic Bible', 'Calmet's Illustrated and Explanatory Catholic Dictionary of the Bible' and various indices and tables. All embellished with 'elegant steel plates and other appropriate engravings'

At the middle of the Bible is a completely unmarked Holy Bonds of Matrimony page, family page section, and at the end a section for family portraits.

This Bible is in a VERY GOOD (VG) to EXCELLENT (E)condition. The Bible's binding, spine and cover are in great shape (professionally restored and rebound) also the family page section has been restored. All pages are present, no writings, hardly any foxing/coloring. No other kind of damages. The covers and spine shows minor age related scuffs and wear. A nice and 'solid' Catholic Bible ready to be used as a family treasure!
