During the transfiguration of Jesus (Luke 9:28-36, Mark 9:2-13, Matthew 17:1-13) Peter, John and James heard God’s voice proclaim: “This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him” (emphasis added). So, what does Jesus, the Son of God, say about the divine inspiration of the Bible? Did He teach that the Scriptures are God’s Word? Clearly and beyond any doubt, yes! He taught precisely that. Obviously, during Jesus’ life, only the Old Testament was available, but on many occasions He referred to these Scriptures, confirming their accuracy and affirming their inspiration:
Clearly Jesus taught the Scriptures are inspired. To reject His claim, one must reject the authority of Jesus. The evidence we have discussed in the earlier chapters about the truth of the Bible and the identity of Jesus as the Son of God shows conclusively that Jesus has God’s full authority (see Matthew 28:18-20).
