Windmill Ministries is an apologetics ministry committed to sharing and defending the Christian worldview. It was initially based upon the research of Rob van de Weghe and is now continued by Rob and his son, Luuk.
Raised and educated in the Netherlands, Rob was brought up in a nominally Roman Catholic family. Putting his childhood faith on the backburner, he became a successful businessman and set his sights on two great goals: retiring when he was 40 years old and moving to the United States of America.
Having achieved these goals in the mid-1990s, he was confronted with the task of rebuilding his family, whose foundations had begun to crumble over decades of hard work and international travel. When his wife, Jacoba, became a born-again Christian Rob decided that he would investigate the facts around Christianity, expecting to invalidate its claims. He was overwhelmed by the evidence and, after a long investigative journey, he reluctantly committed himself to Jesus Christ. Much like C.S. Lewis, he was "surprised by joy" and discovered the riches of obeying God and the reward of watching his family come into a right relationship with him again. Windmill Ministries and all the evidences it presents are the outcome of this journey from skepticism to faith, from reluctance to joy.
Rob and Jacoba live in the quiet town of Quilcene, WA near their three grown children: Joe, Luuk and Anne. All of their children now walk with God. Jacoba has written a number of devotionals and stories to express her thankfulness for all that God has done for her family, and these are posted on the Windmill Ministries homepage for anyone to enjoy.
His son, Luuk, who committed his life to Christ in his late teens, is now pursuing a Master of Divinity at Western Reformed Seminary in Tacoma, WA. He helps Rob in the work of Windmill Ministries with webpage design, writing, organizing speaking engagements and formal debates. Luuk also lives on the Olympic Peninsula with his wife and three daughters.
Windmill Ministries is devoted to three tasks:
1. To equip Christians with factual evidence to strengthen their faith and enable them to share their beliefs more effectively.
2. To help non-believers overcome intellectual stumbling blocks that keep them from turning to God and accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior.
3. To show the world that Christianity is not for the naive and the gullible, but that it is based on solid historical and scientific evidence.
Many people reject Christianity not for intellectual reasons, but for moral considerations. That is, their will does not want to submit to God; therefore their mind explains and defends this rejection. For this reason we want to equip Christians and non-Christians with information that empowers them to identify and reject these intellectual objections by defending and explaining the Christian faith with objective evidence.
